“DARE”ing to resist drugs and violence
By: Maya Essa, 5th
The fifth grade D.A.R.E. graduation was on Thursday, January 23rd. That morning, the
fifth graders put on their D.A.R.E. shirts and headed to the gym for their graduation.
First, Officer Corley explained to the parents and guests a little bit of what D.A.R.E.
program is about. Next, Mrs. Rome, the principal, came to thank the parents for coming.
We all stood up and said the Pledge of Allegiance. The “Drug Free girls” did one drug free cheer
and one song to start the program. Then, the heart of the program included skits performed by
the graduates. Later, Noah Richard and Kaylee Dublin read poems entitled “D.A.R.E.
to Succeed” and “Death of an Innocent.” Near the end of the program, we surprised
Officer Corley with some sweet cards telling him how awesome he is! We really hoped
he liked reading them. Lastly, we thanked the parents and guests and took some
pictures. I hope Officer Corley enjoyed it as much as I did!
