The fifth grade D.A.R.E. graduation was on Wednesday, December 19th. Each 5th grader received a D.A.R.E. shirt to wear for their D.A.R.E. graduation. Our Master of Ceremony, Ala Odetallah, and Mistress of Ceremony, Laura Hall welcomed the guests and introduce the speakers and skits. Officer Corley(City of Kenner), explained to the parents and guests a little bit of what the D.A.R.E. program is about. Next, Mrs. Rome, the principal, thanked the parents for coming. Every 5th grader participated in the graduation. Some students read their individual essays about the dangers of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, bullying and cyberbullying. Other essays included obeying parents, importance of friendship, personal development, and decision making. The “Ways to Say No” skits were performed also by the graduates. These included ‘Strength in Numbers’, ‘Repeated Refusal’, ‘Giving a Reason or Fact’, ‘Humor’, ‘Changing the Subject’, ‘Put in Book Bag’, ‘Education First’.
