Today’s Cox Communications Inspirational Hero is Maheen Noor of Schneckenburger Elementary. “She is successfully overcoming challenges such as a condition known as Albinism. This has made it difficult for her to read, write, type, or use visual aids. It’s also challenging for her to participate in other activities that typical 5th grade children can do, like free play during recess or P.E, as she needs to shield herself from the sun. One would think these challenges would result in self-consciousness or shyness, yet this is not the case with this astounding student. Maheen advocates for herself as needed, but makes no excuses for performance in school or in socializing. She has been able to maintain the A/B honor roll with limited modifications. She actually frequently turns down modifications that are offered to her. She doesn’t see herself as having a disability. Instead, she’s determined to work to her absolute highest level of capability. As her teacher I’m truly inspired by Maheen each and every day. I also know that she inspires the other students.” Lora Pertuit (5th grade ELA teacher at Schneckneburger Elementary.
