Schneckenburger’s 3-5 graders who earned good grades for the 1st nine weeks were invited to participate in the New Orleans Pelicans/ACME Reading Rally. at the Smoothie King Center on Tuesday, November 27, 2018. Students participated in 4 Reading, Learning, and Science stations. The first station was an academic challenge where groups of students worked together as a team to find antonyms of different basketball and vocabulary words. In the second station, students learned the importance of stretching, different muscles and bones in their body, and good exercises to improve your heart. The third station was the recipe and cooking station where groups of students were able to work hands-on to cook chicken fettuccine with the Pelicans chef using a recipe and learning the importance of measuring different ingredients. The fourth exciting station was a read aloud of the book, I Spy in the Louisiana Sky, which was read by Pelicans point guard Frank Jackson who also discussed his love of reading as a student and the importance of reading in his basketball career. The students were also able to discuss books they were reading and what they love most about reading. Finally, all students received a copy of the book, Peter and the Pelican, by Jacqueline Kulla. It was a great learning experience where students were able to SHOOT for the stars.
